Data doesn't have a fixed shape. It's just bytes. Schema is applied at the moment of interpretation.
If everything is spans, then casting becomes re-interpretation. Not conversion. Not mapping. Just… seeing differently.
Schema is not a property of data. It's a lens applied to it.
